Vijayawada: Expressing concern over govt and private medical colleges in the state not participating in the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) and none of these colleges being ranked among the top in the country, health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav proposed to start such ranking of all medical colleges in the state based on a set of parameters that ensure quality medical education in the state.
Satya Kumar stated that rankings such as NIRF help in the identification of areas for improvement and foster healthy competition that benefits all. He was speaking during the graduation ceremony at Katuri Medical College on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he outlined the state govt’s commitment to improve the Infant Mortality Rate from the present 25 deaths per 1,000 births to less than 2 by 2047, and the maternal mortality rate from the present 45 to 5, and increase the life span of people from the present 70.60 to 85 years by 2047.
On the occasion, Satya Kumar Yadav told the medical graduates to adhere to the solemn ‘Hippocratic Oath’ taken by them while entering the profession. He urged doctors not to turn hypocrites by violating that oath taken in the name of the legendary Greek physician and philosopher Hippocrates, who lived about 2,300 years ago.
