Bhubaneswar: Authorities of AIIMS Bhubaneswar have requested the state govt to provide at least 100 acres of land for the institute’s expansion.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar president Shailesh Kumar and executive director, Ashutosh Biswas, met chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday and discussed several key issues focusing on patient care, medical education and expansion of the institute.

“If we get more land, we can expand the services of the outpatient department (OPD) and clinical care services. We will set up centres of excellence on the campus. Land is also needed for creating residential facilities for staff. For research purposes, we may set up research centres in the coming days,” said Biswas.

He emphasised AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services, fostering cutting-edge research, and nurturing medical professionals to serve the region and the nation.

They also requested the CM for the integration of the national institute under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area for better urban services and civic support. “After the institute comes under the BMC area, street light problems will be solved. Cleanliness issues will be addressed by the civic body. The garbage lifting process will become smooth. Proper surveillance in the area will keep the locality safe,” he added.

They also discussed several other crucial issues related to healthcare, education and institutional development. Biswas later met chief secretary Manoj Ahuja and health secretary Aswathy S and discussed these issues.

Majhi appreciated efforts of AIIMS and assured all necessary support from the govt for its holistic development. “He acknowledged the institute’s role in transforming healthcare delivery and contributing significantly to both healthcare and medical education in Odisha,” said an official statement from AIIMS.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar was established in 2012 along with other similar institutes in Patna, Jodhpur, Raipur, Rishikesh and Bhopal. While initially envisioned as a 200-acre campus, state govt allotted around 92 acres. It included 60 acres for the hospital and the remaining for residential facilities for students and staff.
